Volume 17 - May 2004

Past Events
May has been a very quiet month. 6 Cadets attended the Centaur
Memorial Day in Brisbane on the 14th May. About the same number
attended the Long Day on the 9 May. As this was a Parade, it was
very disappointing. Our numbers are seriously down and we need Parents
and Cadets to do their best to recruit new members. UPDATE ON PAST
CADETS Congratulations are extended to Amy McMahon who has been
accepted for Officer Training School. Nick Grech is very happy and
doing well at Cerberus and will be home for the coming Show weekend.

Coming Events
CALOUNDRA CITY SHOW Gatekeeping Saturday 29th Elaine Chesters
is making up the roster. Please assist as this is our opportunity
to repay the Show Society for our free use of the Show Grounds. As
they are also going to help us with the cost of the sewerage connection
to the Unit, (which should happen the Monday after the Show) we need
to make it clear that we appreciate it and support them.
SAILING - 6 JUNE Crews will be chosen for the Youth Titles
to be held on the 31/7-1/8.
QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND 12/13/14 June Possibility of a Duke
of Edinburgh Camp at Charlie Morlands. TBA LONG DAY 20 June No Parade
on 16 June. We will look at making this a Long Day down at TS Onslow,
Golden Beach for a change of venue. Parents and siblings invited for
a barbeque. Good opportunity to bring along prospective Cadets and
their parents.
SPECIALIST COURSES June/July School Holidays Bulimba Need to
have Permission Forms and $35 to Leut Brooks by Wednesday 9 June.
YOUTH TITLES Humpybong - Woody Point 31 July - 1 August Teams
will be chosen for this weekend on the sailing day 6th June. We are
defending the Title, so will be sending at least one boat.
PUMISTONE PASSAGE REGATTA 21 - 22 August There will be no Parade
on the 18th. We will be travelling to Bribie each day for the sailing.
instead of a Long Day.
RIVERFIRE DISPLAY Sat 28 August - Brisbane An ADF Display.
We will be advised of arrangements closer to the event.
ANNUAL CONTINUOUS TRAINING CAMP Ewan Maddock Dam 27 Sept to
3 Oct Some of the activities planned are: high/low ropes, abseil,
canoeing, archery, bivouac, adventure sail, Giant's Ladder, Pole Jump,
raft building, campfires, climbing wall and many others. Hopefully
most of the $275 per Cadet will be covered by the Navy as our once-a-year
compulsory camp; however Cadets should start saving now.
8/9/10 October Festival of Colour, Opera in the Rainforest
& Paluma Cup
All on the one weekend. Could parents please contact either Kathy
or Elaine to volunteer some time for the Festival of Colour? Cadets
intending to be involved in the National Sailing Titles in NSW in
December/January, will be asked to help put out the chairs for the
Opera in the Rainforest and the money raised will be put towards their
costs. We will then, depending upon where the Paluma Cup is being
held, take boats and crews down to participate in the second day of
the Cup.
Parent Committee
John Wenban has found buyers for Unit owned Bosun and mast which were
surplus to requirements - $1250 altogether.
Jean has received reimbursement for .22 rifle purchased in 1998 and
not picked up. $255.
Sewerage pump out system & connection to be done on the Monday after
the Show (weather permitting). Still waiting to hear from the Army,
but probably now early June. Meanwhile we cope in the HQs as is. Navy
want a complete Articles-in-Use stocktake done by 25 June. Anyone
who has time to spare (wouldn't it be nice!) and would like to volunteer
some time would be welcomed with open arms. AIU includes clothing,
pipes, bells - everything we've been issued. |
